Sometimes words to hymns come to my mind more easily than words from the Bible. Tonight, while discussing with my hubby the hard time we're facing together, the words to this hymn came to mind. I have a book called Then Sings My Soul by Robert J. Morgan. In it he writes the words to many popular hymns and the stories that go with them. I looked up this song. Although, truthfully, the words to it, (besides the chorus), weren't quite calming, the verse that inspired the hymn was, along with this quote from Charles Spurgeon.
Deuteronomy 33:26&27(NIV)
"There is no one like the God of Jeshurun,
who rides on the heavens to help you
and on the clouds in his majesty.
The eternal God is your refuge,
and underneath are the everlasting arms ..."
The same verses in the Message
"There is none like God, Jeshurun,
riding to your rescue through the skies,
his dignity haloed by clouds.
The ancient God is home
on a foundation of everlasting arms ..."
God, the eternal God, is our support at all times, especially when we are sinking into deep trouble. There are seasons when we sink quite low .... Dear child of God, even when you are at your lowest, underneath are the everlasting arms. ~ Charles Spurgeon
